Paddock - Mary Hunt

Mary Daisy, daughter of Wilson and Martha Hunt was born June 16, 1878 died July 13, 1916. When she was 3 years old, her mother died. A few years later her father was summoned by death leaving Daisy an orphan at the age of 9, along with two brothers and two sistesr. Through the kindness of her uncle, Nathan and Aunt Mary Hamilton, she was given a home which she enjoyed until her marriage. Daisy became a member of the Methodist Church at the age of 15 and since then her life has been an open book, whereby he who runs may read. On November 20, 1904 she was united in marriage with Benjamin Paddock. Two children blessed their home, the elder, Samuel Fay, died in infancy.; and Mary Helen who stil live to mourn the loss of amost devoted mother. Mrs. Paddock was a member of the Loyal Circle of GAR and rendered faithful service in all the work which the organization undertook. Highest praise is inadequate when spoken over the mortal flesh, bu t deeds form a living monument by which we may see and emulate the good works of our sister. The funeral services were at the home last Sunday at 10 a.m. Interment at Oakhill in Crawfordsville. Friends and relatives from a distance were as follows: Mrs. nathan Hamilton, Miss Lide Hunt, Faye Hamilton and wife of Wingate; Albert Hunt, Crawfordsville; Mrs. Celia Runyan and daughter, Indianapolis; Walter Hainey and wife, Ladoga; Ben Switzer and wife, Mrs. Walters, Mr. and Mrs. Remley, Mrs. Henry Hughes, Crawfordsville. The family greatly appreciates the kindness of their many friends.- kbz

It was indeed sad news to the people of Darlington and the community when the report came Thursday morning that Mrs. Ben Paddock had passed away at the Culver Union Hospital in Crawfordsville at 2:30. While her condition was known to be grave, all had hoped for a change for the better but prayers were in vain and the death angel claimed the good woman yet in the full bloom of life, leaving a little daughter aged 9 years and an affectionate husband, besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss, which is heaven's gain. Mrs. Paddock was taken suddenly ill on July 3 and her condition grew so serious that an operation seemed imperative. She was taken to the Culver Union Hospital where the operation was performed Friday the 7th at which time it was found that she suffered from an adhesion of the bowels. She passed through the ordeal successfuly and apparently was on a fair way to recovery when peritonitis developed and her case became hopeless. Wednesday she lapsed into unconsciousness from which she never rallied an death came as a sweet relief to her sufferings Thursday morning. The body was removed to the late home, two miles SE of town where the funeral will be conducted Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. BE Antrobus of Madison officiating. Interment will be made in Oak Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Daisy Hunt Paddock was born June 16, 1878 died July 13, 1916, aged 38 years 27 days. She was the daughter of Wilson and Martha Hunt of Wingate. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Paddock November 20, 1904, and to this union, one child came to bless their home, a daughter, Mary Helen. The deceased was a member of the Ladies Loyal Circle, GAR of Darlington and her influence there will be sadly missed. She was a true mother, and a kind neighbor. She was loved and admired by all whose good fortunes it was to know her. The husband and little daughter have the sympathy of everyone in their bereavement. - kbz
